Archiving - Campaign Notebook
Posted by gm under Archiving
Another thing I’ve done to try to archive campaign progress is keep a campaigns notebook. This has the potential for goodness in being archival, in that the books can be shelved and kept once full. Potential badness is that it’s impossible to sort or archive notes done like this.
Past experience says that this is best as a temporary solution - use for working things out or taking quick notes. Longer term reference should be added to wiki or scanned and uploaded so there is a easily referenced copy.
Don’t be me, digging up the house for two days because the notebook that holds the nobility structure of two campaign cities has gone missing.
That said, I still have my notebook and I still use it. Sometimes it’s just easier to get down ideas on paper. I have a hard time doing graphical planning on a computer. I guess if I ever learned to use a graphics tablet, I might be different, but the feel of pencil on paper still seduces me. And I love the effect of the spiderweb connections created when the relationships in a campaign are drawn out like flowcharts.
So my conclusion - the notebook is easy to use, but scan important entries for archival purposes.
