Hotel Review - Drury Inn and Suites
I know, I’m a GM, not a hotelier, but I know what I like.
And I like Drury Inn.
I’m on the road this week to Dragon*Con. We just hit Atlanta, and though we have a con rate downtown for the show itself, Thursday night put us in one of my favorite hotel chains, the Drury. I’ve […]

Portable Gaming Apps - The Dice Roller, Revisited
Obsessions do occasionally lead to success.
I spent a disturbing amount of time prowling the web in search of possible stand-alone USB capable dice programs, and found a few. I’ll be testing them out to be certain that they’re really stand alones, and to provide reviews. Here’s the ones I’ve found so far, and my quick […]

4e D&D @ ENWorld
Just like the birth of 3rd and 3.5 editions of D&D, ENWorld has birthed a page to collect all the announcements, rumors and general weirdness floating around about 4e.
Unofficial D&D 4th Edition Info Page
This is an interesting collection of news, blog posts, release info and more about 4e. I find that ENWorld is usually the […]

4e and the OGL
Chris Perkins from WotC said on his staff blog:
“We also met with other d20 publishers throughout the show, first to assure them that the OGL would be continuing under 4E, and that we’re interested in working with them to iron out things that didn’t work so well with 3E. Very exciting!”
So it looks like at […]

Game Review - MagiQuest
Recently, my friends and I took a trip to the sunny shores of Myrtle Beach, SC. Most everyone was excited about the beach. Not so much, I. It’s my dirty little secret, and I share it with my blog audience.
I feel like a social leper with all my friends who love it, but - […]

Quick Tip - Organizing Your Tokens
If you use tokens in place of miniatures, especially if you use round ones, try this out - a pill bottle works just about perfectly for storage. Sort your tokens by type - ‘Undead’, ‘Orcs and Goblinoids’, etc - and label the tops of the bottles. It’ll make it far easier to find the tokens […]

NPC Names (Modern) Cheat
It’s Saturday, so just a quick note today. Forgive.
Stupid GM Trick #126 - How to get a Modern NPC Name on the fly - check the spam folder of your email. Spammers often use a random name generator to get the names they use on the messages, so think of it as a pregenerated list […]

Portable Gaming Apps - The Dice Roller
To build a good portable gaming USB drive, you first have to decide what you want it to be able to do. With that in mind, let me give you what I consider the first of the ‘core’ applications for the most common gamer tasks.
The Dice Roller - Choices here are fewer than I’d expect. […]

The Seinfeldian Chain as Game Development Inspiration
You all may have noticed, if anyone’s even reading all this, that I’m updating much more regularly lately. I haven’t missed a day in two weeks. Why is that? I ran across a concept called a Seinfeld Chain. What the heck is a Seinfeld Chain? Click here for the explanation, courtesy of Lifehacker, one of […]

Planning Your Campaign - Stage 1
The first step to planning a successful campaign is deciding what game/game system you’re going to set your story in. That sounds like a no-brainer but it really isn’t - you may be heartset on Urban Arcana, but your players may be in the mood for Conan. Sit down with your players and try to […]
