I’m afraid to look at all the sites with the 4e previews.

I feel OLD. Old and crotchety, even. I don’t WANNA learn a new system. I dumped White Wolf after a torrid, decades long fling for this nonsense. Not just changing the rules, but changing the ‘classes’ - all their subdivisions changed. And why? So they could sell NEW clanbooks? New lapel pins?

I notice with some degree of amusement that I’m not the only one balking on that one. My recent trip to DragonCon was enlightening in that a number of games there were explicitly run in the old WoD setting and with the old rules. Sure, they’re not perfect, but do we really have to relearn rules every few years? What’s better, rules whose breaks I know, or rules I don’t know at all?

I know that financially it’s in a company’s best interest to sell core books. At least that’s what the statistics say. I guess they don’t lie. Maybe. All I know is that WotC is now copying White Wolf. And almost everybody I know quit playing White Wolf games when the decade of learning plot, system and story were hung out to dry. I’m sure they have new players. I just wonder how many people have left gaming entirely over it. 2e to 3e had its issues, but it was doable. It had been long enough. I really think its too soon for 4e. It will have to prove itself to me before I bother changing for my home games. I’ve too invested in 3e now.

I’m willing to be converted to the new religion, but darn it, the sermons better be worthwhile…
